As the Sundance Film Festival returns to the Grand Theatre, Salt Lake Community College’s own catering company is promising an even tastier and welcoming gourmet experience this year.

The Grand will host 1,100 guests for each of the 19 premieres it will showcase. Planning to serve 20,000 patrons is a challenge Copper Edge Catering takes in stride with both experience and professionalism.
“It’s exciting! We have been meeting regularly to plan for this and want to make it even bigger and better than last year,” says Meghan Krenicky, services specialist for Copper Edge Catering.
Working with creative new ideas from the event planning committee, Krenicky says she is very pleased with their creative strategy and expanded format. Quality products are offered with the ever-popular deli delights and delectable gourmet pastries, among other specialties.
Additional food options
The Grand entry and concessionaires will supplement this main station with stocked food carts, delivering fresh snacks, hot coffee, cocoa, cold juices and sodas to customers moving through the line.
Additionally, the SLCC Eatery Grill, located in between the Grand and the Center for Arts and Media, will be open for the public to order warm meals, snacks, desserts and beverages. Patrons may sit at tables in the adjacent Forum Plaza, where they can enjoy socializing and pop-up entertainment.
Planners have also been working on opening the connecting outdoor Atrium to accommodate more patrons.
Student involvement
While Copper Edge has long employed SLCC students, in a presentation last Wednesday at the Student Life and Leadership monthly club meeting, Krenicky invited student clubs to consider participating in a new partnership fundraising opportunity.
Students, after taking the appropriate food handling and cashiering courses, may serve as food cart volunteers and, in turn, build cash for their club through their volunteer hours.
“We wanted to come up with a way to include our students and this creates a win-win for everyone by giving back to their club [programs],” Krenicky says.
