‘Tis the season for Salt Lake Community College’s annual Christmas concert with Eclipse. The a cappella group will keep the Christmas spirit alive with breath taking vocals that have captured the hearts of many. They will be performing at SLCC’s South City Campus in the Grand Theatre from 7:30 to 10 p.m. on Dec. 11-14.
Eclipse is a six member a cappella vocal group that is composed of Paul Hansen, Kevin Jones, Jake Despain, Dan Kartchtner, Shayne Taylor and James Case. They started at Utah State University in 2001, during a performance in a personal relations/ambassador oriented group that was part of an entertainment program.
The band has had outstanding local success winning awards such as, “Best Vocal Group” in Utah’s Best of State awards, and they also won the Rocky Mountain Regional Sweepstakes in 2002. The group was in both the opening and closing ceremonies for the 2002 Olympic Winter Games.
In October of 2003, they released their Christmas album “Three Kings,” which ended up winning The Pearl Award Holiday Album of the Year. In 2011, Eclipse released their second Christmas album “It’s Christmas Time.”
The Dec. 11 concert is a special SLCC ‘students only’ night, where SLCC students can get up to four tickets at no cost with a valid OneCard.
With their mesmerizing vocals and holiday spirit, Eclipse should pack the house. The concert is family friendly. Tickets range from $5-12 for community and are free for students. Contact the Grand Theatre for more information on the concert and ticket prices at (801) 957-3322.
