The men and women who have served, and continue to serve, in the United States armed forces did not go unnoticed this week at Salt Lake Community College.
Throughout the week, SLCC and the Veterans Services Office organized a variety of activities to celebrate those in uniform, concluding with the annual flag raising on Veterans Day.
SLCC hosted a photo gallery Monday and Tuesday at Taylorsville Redwood Campus. The pictures that were on display were taken by members of the military and gave visitors a powerful reminder of what service members experience in their careers. From combat training and pre-deployment, to life on the battlefield, to emotional reunions with family members, the gallery provided a timeline of what a soldier goes through during their service.
Cake was given out to students throughout the day Thursday to celebrate the 241st birthday for the Marine Corps. The free food was an easy way for Veterans Services to educate students about the founding. Service recruiter Sheppard was also on hand to talk to students and give them more information on the opportunities available with the Marine Corps.
Finally, SLCC held Veterans Day flag ceremonies at the Taylorsville Redwood, South City and Jordan campuses. A good-sized crowd, including several veterans, watched as the Salt Lake Naval Sea Cadets raised the flags outside the Student Center at Taylorsville Redwood Campus. Music was provided by Terry Anderson as Vincent Nguyen sung the National Anthem.
The activities gave SLCC a way to say thank you to all veterans, and reminded students and staff of the sacrifices veterans have made to protect and defend the U.S.
