The Salt Lake Community College Student Association kicked off the 2019-20 school year by hosting the annual Bruin Bash last Thursday at Taylorsville Redwood Campus.

“The goal [of Bruin Bash] is to bring awareness to the many resources that SLCC has to offer,” says Josh Teerlink, a member of the SLCCSA. “We want to help the student body enjoy the time they spend on campus.”

The Bruin Bash featured live performances from comedian Janea Burns and hypnotist Christopher Carter. Other free activities included a photo booth, laser tag, henna tattoos, and tarot card readings.

The SLCCSA also supplied free popcorn and cotton candy to keep the party going throughout the night.

One of the most important aspects of the Bruin Bash is to introduce the SLCC community to a variety of diverse clubs and activities that students can get involved with while on campus. With over fifty different active clubs and organizations, there is an activity out there for every SLCC student to enjoy.

Bruin Robotics is just one of many organizations at SLCC that encourage students to get involved and try new things.

“We welcome students of all disciplines to get involved with the growing robotics community here at SLCC,” says Lucas Salas, the president of Bruin Robotics. “There is an experience to be had for students specializing in areas such as manufacturing, business, engineering, and marketing.”

Other clubs and organizations represented at the Bruin Bash included the Black Student Union, the Folio literary magazine, the Thayne Center, and Student Life and Leadership.

“[SLCC] has many great opportunities to become more engaged within the community,” says Cassi Hoffmeister, an engaged-learning specialist with Student Life and Leadership. “These experiences can help boost your resume while also gaining applicable college credit.”

The Bruin Bash is only a sampling of information about SLCC’s many clubs and organizations. Studnets who missed the Bruin Bash can attend any of the three club rush events being offered this week.

The Fall 2019 Club Rush will run Sept. 3-5 on the Jordan, South City, and Taylorsville Redwood campuses, respectively.

Check out the active clubs contact list for more information about the clubs and organizations represented at SLCC.
