Thousands of Utahns celebrated springtime during the sixth annual Holi festival on Saturday, June 10 at the Krishna temple in Salt Lake City.
The Festival of Colors symbolizes the blooms in spring with the throwing of colored powder into the air every hour on the hour, creating striking visuals. Many members of the crowd wear white, allowing colors to show up more vibrantly on the contrasting fabric.
Millcreek Mayor Jeff Silvestrini opened the festival by inviting guests to enjoy the multicultural celebration of Hindu heritage. Festivities included free yoga, ecstatic dancing, and Kirtan bands and singers performing for the whole day. Food vendors provided Indian-flavored ice creams and other Indian cuisine.
Globe photographer Allison Hutto was on hand to take pictures of the celebration. Click on one of the thumbnails below to open the photo gallery.
