A typical image of college spring break includes beaches, bikinis and booze. But students at Salt Lake Community College have other creative ways to spend a week off and most plans do not involve going anywhere near a beach.
SLCC student Ticha Fukuda usually uses the time off to get caught up on homework, spend time with friends, sleep or just relax, but this year she chose to go with her boyfriend to see his family.
“I decided to actually get out of town,” Fukuda says. “My boyfriend’s family lives in Las Vegas and we like the idea of being in warmer weather. We may go swimming, do some shopping and little sightseeing.”
While some may still head out of town, more and more students are looking to just stay at home and find fun things to do in Salt Lake.
From walking in Liberty or Sugarhouse Park, hiking trails that crisscross the hills around the city, or even skiing and snowboarding, there are many things to do outdoors without having to travel far.
Spring Break week is also packed with nearly 200 events happening around the valley.
For those who are still undecided about what to do with their time off, SLCC Spring Break happens to include St. Patrick’s Day this year and many places are offering fun events in an effort to celebrate in the good old Irish way.
Regardless of what SLCC students have planned for Spring Break, the week offers the perfect opportunity to enjoy some of the dozens of activities happening in and around Salt Lake City.

It’s an ok article. I think it’s trying to break a beach stereotype but other than that its kind of boring to me. There’s some great pictures here, though!
Also, what “good OLD Irish way”? You don’t mean the potato famine, do you?
