On behalf of the Salt Lake Community College Student Association, I am honored to welcome you to SLCC. If this is your first year at SLCC, congratulations and welcome to the Bruin family. I wish all students, faculty, and staff the best this year.
Your time in college is more than classes and studying; it is about involvement, experience, interaction and service. When we decide to involve ourselves, we make a difference because those experiences will allow us to see the world through a different perspective. At Student Life & Leadership we have that combination between studying and getting involved in our education and our learning process. Our mission statement reads: “We create leadership environments and hands on experience providing students opportunities to have a voice, get involved, find their place, and shape moments of inspiration.”
My experience has been wonderful and beneficial because I chose to get involved. Don’t be shy; allow us to help you broaden your horizons in here in the SLCC Student Association (SLCCSA).
“Individually, we are one drop,” says Japanese writer Ryunosuke Satoro. “Together, we are an ocean.” During my time as Student Association President I want to bring more power and knowledge to the students by promoting the student government power. I believe that personal interaction is crucial for tangible results in empowering students to master their future careers; I want to work closely with you and hear from you about your concerns and issues. Please visit our offices located at the Student Center (Taylorsville Redwood Campus) or write me an email Carlos.Moreno@slcc.edu.
If we work together we can make wonderful changes.
One of my favorite quotes is by Spencer W. Kimball:
“It’s not possible that the problems of this world be resolved by the pessimists and skeptics whose horizons are guided by the obvious realities. We need men and women who think of things that have never been thought of and who dream of things that have never been dreamed of, and who ask, ‘Why not?’”
This is our time to dream and work together to build a better world, we are proud of who we are.
We are Bruins. Bruin and Proud. Go Bruins!
