Valentine’s Day is right around the corner. For Salt Lake Community College students who are looking forward to the holiday there’s the Got a Crush? event; for those who are less excited about the holiday, there’s the Unvalentine’s Day event. Both events are free.
“Got a Crush? is a fun and free event that you can use to give something to that special someone and celebrate the holiday,” says Demi Brog, Student Life and Leadership Taylorsville Redwood Campus activities vice president.
Got a Crush? is at the Taylorsville Redwood Campus on Feb. 13, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. in the Student Event Center. Students will put together a care package to give to that special someone.
Care packages will include candy, stuffed animals, hearts and Crush soda.
“I think that the Got a Crush? event is an awesome idea. I’m going to be going and making a care package for my boyfriend,” says Student Aubrey McCleve.

“Unvalentine’s Day is mainly for people who dislike the holiday or who are single,” says Alicia Pia, Student Life and Leadership North Region board chair. Unvalentine’s Day is at the South City Campus east entrance on Feb. 14, 2012 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Students will make spoon voodoo dolls and anti-love cards. They will also have a board where students can tell about their worst Valentine’s Day and why they are happy to be single.
“We will be giving advice on how to stay positive and treat yourself on this Hallmark holiday. At least come for a broken heart cookie,” says Pia.
“Both of the events sound fun to me. Even though I do not have a significant other I think it would be fun to attend Got a Crush? because you could give the gift basket to a friend or family member. I like it that they have an event for people who are single too. Unvalentine’s Day sounds like it will be interesting,” says SLCC Student Shantae Meir.
