SLCC Athletics: Be a factor

The five athletic teams at Salt Lake Community College want you to BE A FACTOR at all our home games this season. In the past season the SLCC teams have compiled a combined record of 182 wins and just 46 losses.

Some of the highlights of the different seasons included a top National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) ranking held by the baseball team, a NJCAA National Championship runner-up finish by the softball team and four NJCAA All-Americans.

We need you to join the teams and become the “B Factor”. The “B Factor,” or Bruin Factor, consists of you, the SLCC fans. You will make the difference at our home games. Fill the stands, cheer loudly and watch top level competition all for FREE. SLCC students, staff and faculty get into all home games FREE with a valid OneCard.

Basketball and volleyball play all of their home games in Bruin Arena located in the Lifetime Activities Center. Baseball hosts their home games at Cate Field located at the Jordan Campus and softball plays at the Taylorsville Redwood Campus on Bruin Field. While at the games enjoy free giveaways, halftime contests and much more.

A quick recap of last season’s results by sport:

The volleyball team finished 2010 with an overall record of 28-8. They took 4th place at the NJCAA National Tournament. The squad boasted four All-Region players. The 2011 season begins on September 23 against North Idaho.

The men’s basketball team finished last season with a 25-8 record. They finished second at the Region 18 tournament. The team had three All-Region players and one NJCAA All-American. The team begins a new era with Coach Todd Phillips patrolling the sidelines on November 11.

The women’s basketball team finished last season with an astounding 25-4 overall record and took home the Scenic West Athletic Conference (Region 18) championship. That team was led by four All-Region players and Scenic West Athletic Conference Player of the Year, sophomore Haley Holmstead.

The baseball team made headlines while sitting atop the national rankings for a few weeks last season. The team ultimately finished with a 49-16 record and took home the Region 18 crown. Adam Gunn was named the Scenic West Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Year. The team will open play in January of 2012.

The softball team finished 2011 with a 56-9 record. In the process they won the SWAC and Region 18 titles and went all the way to the NJCAA National Championship Game. The squad boasted both the SWAC Player of the Year and SWAC Pitcher of the Year, returning sophomore Ariel Zimmerman. In all there were six All-Region players and 2 NJCAA All-Americans. The 2012 season will begin in January.
