Thousands of Utahns were disappointed after news broke that the fourth annual Bonanza Campout was canceled.

After the popular music festival, which was to be held at River’s Edge in Heber, was denied proper licensing and permits from Wasatch County and the Utah Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control, many past attendees took to social media to point out similarities with other large Utah events, such as Outdoor Retailer, which have been moved or canceled for government stances and alcohol-related reasons.

In response to the cancellation, comments on social media range from “Utah hates fun” to comments that question the intent of Utah government.

“I am saddened that what has become the best and most highly anticipated summer event in the state of Utah has run afoul of the conservative patriarchy that masquerades as government,” Utah local Nicholas Barton (@nicholasmbarton) commented on Instagram.

However, there is some good news for festivalgoers who wanted to see the headliners billed at Bonanza Campout.

Salt City Sounds, a weekly summer concert series held at the Gallivan Center, snagged some of the artists that were originally going to play at Bonanza. The concert series announced that Empire of the Sun, Big Wild, Whethan, ford. and Elley Duhé are set to play June 22 and Chromeo, Aluna George and Harry Hudson are set to play June 23.

Although a small, inner-city concert series may not have the same ambiance as a three-day festival in the mountains, at least Utahns will still be able to enjoy some of their favorite artists this summer.
