Salt Lake Community College aims to connect new students with the people and programs they need to succeed.
The SLCC resource fair brings faculty and staff together to share information with students about the different programs and services at the college. The fair allows students to discover benefits available to them and speak with other students and staff who share similar interests.
The resource fair marks the end of Welcome Days activities, which also included fast advising sessions, Club Rush and a multicultural meet-and-greet.
“Welcome Days events are meant to help students feel connected to the campus,” says First Year Experience advisor Mikaela Mokofisi. “It’s a way for them to feel like they know someone on campus, that they have support and resources on campus. It’s all part of that.”
Fair organizers were on hand to direct students toward the right resource and department booths to get information related to their interests.
“I thought it was very well-rounded,” says communication major Alexis Ahlzadeh. “They had people from SLCC, and from the U and other neighboring schools, so it was more than just what’s going on at SLCC, it was what’s going on all over.”
The fair provides informational booths that cover a broad range of academic and career opportunities, many of which students may not be aware of.
“I found out about some programs I didn’t even know about, like the study abroad program at SLCC,” Ahlzadeh says. “I didn’t I could do those, let alone that they were offered.”
The last resource fair for the semester will begin at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 26 in the Student Event Center at Taylorsville Redwood Campus. Free food and games will be provided.
