The Salt Lake Community College Dance Company will perform its spring concert, “Our Dance Language,” in the Grand Theatre on April 10 and 11.

Students, faculty and guest choreographers have produced a spring concert with themes regarding how dance can communicate our feelings, ideals and emotions.

The student and guest choreographers each took a specific element of dance to communicate. African, Indian and modern dances will be covering themes regarding nuclear explosions to basic human emotions.

Guest choreographer Natosha Washington is using nuclear explosions as “movement catalysts.” Dance for the Camera works are also included in this performance. There will also be a Bollywood-style dance that will be sure to please.

“We can all relate to dance, if we let ourselves feel it, physically and emotionally,” says SLCC Dance Company director Tess Boone.

Many of the students have been dancing for over ten years.

19-year-old Payton Hathorne, who has been dancing since she was four, is getting her associate degree at SLCC and plans to attend Utah Valley University to continue her dance career.

“SLCC has a great dance program,” says Hathorne.

Most SLCC Dance Company members are planning on going to four-year university after they earn their associate degree.

Tickets for the showcase are available at the Grand Theatre box office (801-957-3322) and are $10 or half price with two non-perishable food items. Tickets are free with a current student ID and two food items.
