SLCCSA Film Festival award winners were recognized at an Oak Room Gala on April 25.

On Thursday, April 25, the Taylorsville Redwood Student Center Oak Room was filled with students and family as the Salt Lake Community College Student Association (SLCCSA) celebrated its sixth annual film festival with dinner and awards.

The SLCCSA celebrates the talent of SLCC filmmakers by hosting an online film festival and then awarding the best films in any of six given categories judged by select panelists. Filmmakers are also eligible for the Audience Choice Award based on online votes.

All of the films that were entered into the festival are available for viewing online at the SLCCSA Film Festival website, www.slccfilmfestival.blogspot.com

“I was very surprised; I did not think I would get that,” said director Angela Challis, who won the Audience Choice Award for her music video Contemporary Gravity. “I was trying to put something different, something no one had seen before.”

Katelyn Prawitt, student involvement chair on the Fine Arts and Lectures Board, was the master of ceremonies for the event and announced that the films had received almost 3,000 total views, with over 350 votes for the Audience Choice Award.

Director and SLCC student Andrew James amazed judges and audience members alike by winning four awards.

James entered three separate films into the music video, action, and drama categories. The French language film Mercer won first place in the action category as well as the overall first place winner. The other films both won second place in their respective categories.
