The Salt Lake Community College Social Work Association held a fundraiser for their upcoming Halloween project last Thursday at Mellow Mushroom Pizza.

Patrons were invited to have lunch with club members, with twenty percent of meal purchases being donated to the club. The money raised will help the Social Work Association provide pumpkins for children who attend Officer’s Hollow at the University of Utah.

The aroma of pizza in the air and a great atmosphere created the perfect environment for hungry donors. The friendly club members were quick to invite people to come sit at their table and share conversation while enjoying good food for a good cause.

SLCC sociology professor and club advisor Daniel Poole says the Social Work Association meets every Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. in the alumni room at South City Campus. Visitors are welcome to stop by and sit in on the meetings.

Poole adds that there are plenty of volunteer opportunities for anybody looking for service hours or experience. The Bruin Cupboard, for example, relies on student volunteers to operate and manage the pantry.

For more information about the Social Work Association, email Daniel Poole or visit the club’s OrgSync page.
