Many Salt Lake Community College students are not fully aware of the benefits they get from owning a OneCard.
As the official form of student ID at SLCC, the OneCard has three primary purposes: a debit card, a campus fund card and a bus pass. But students can also use the OneCard to get discounts at local stores.
“Students use the OneCard primarily for printing and bus card services, [and] can also show [their] OneCard for discounts [at places] such as the Living Planet Aquarium,” says South City Campus ID Center employee Laura Gillen.
Here is a quick summary of how the OneCard can make campus life easier.
1. Money Network
Students can use the Money Network portion of the card to instantly transfer funds and deposit scholarships, financial aid, paychecks and tax returns. Students who want to use Money Network must opt in via phone at 1-800-822-4283.
The card also has a rewards program to earn cash back on purchases.
2. Bruin Bucks
Multiple SLCC services also accept the OneCard for different transactions. Students can transfer funds into the Bruin Bucks program for purchases at the food court, the bookstore, Quick Stops and other locations on campus.
Any student who signs up for the Bruin Meal Plan can earn up to $50 in bonus credit on their plan. Students also receive 50 free prints at SLCC computer labs each semester through the built-in UniPrint fund.
3. UTA Bus Pass
For students who use public transit, the OneCard can be used as a UTA bus pass. SLCC students who purchase either a 30-day or semester pass have to stop by the ID Center to activate it.
Where to get a OneCard
The first OneCard is free for any currently enrolled student and can be obtained at any campus ID Center. Replacement cards will cost $20 unless a card is unusable from normal wear and tear or a student provides a police report for a stolen card.
Any student who loses their OneCard should contact the ID Center to check the lost and found in case their card was returned.
