Starting August 1, 2018, your Salt Lake Community College OneCard can be utilized as an unlimited pass for Utah Transit Authority services throughout the Salt Lake Valley. The benefit is optional and free for registered students, staff and faculty to use.
UTA services included in the pass include buses, TRAX, FrontRunner and the S-Line, making it more affordable and easy to get to class. Seasonal ski buses and the Park City to Salt Lake City bus are not included.
When asked about the best part of this change, Jan Coleman of the Institutional Marketing and Communications Department replied, “The biggest news is this is free free free! Did I mention it’s free?!” This change will save students hundreds of dollars.
Rather than purchase your student UTA pass online, all you have to do is activate your card at any of these OneCard office locations: South City, West Valley, Taylorsville, Jordan, Library Square or Westpointe. If you have a blue OneCard, you can upgrade your card to the yellow version free of charge.
Unlike the previous system, once your OneCard is activated by the office, you are free to use your card as a UTA pass immediately. The OneCard will act as an electronic fare card. If you are not familiar with the system, you simply tap the card on an electric reader near the entrances to all TRAX, buses and FrontRunner platforms when boarding or exiting transit.
In addition to a free UTA pass, the OneCard offers you 50 free prints per semester at open computer labs. The OneCard can also be used with the Bruin Bucks program and is beneficial to keep on you for student events and discounts. If lost or damaged, OneCards are $20 to replace.
Visit your nearest OneCard office for more information.
This is great news for many students that use this transportation, this will help add some savings for many families. Great Job for making it possible!!!
This is a great opportunity for students. Thank you SLCC for negotiating this agreement. It brings the school in line with the U and other state schools. Mass transit is a critical component of the overall growth plan for the Salt Lake Valley in the coming years and encouraging its use now will introduce it to the decision makers of tomorrow. On behalf of the Utah Transit Riders Union I applaud the administrators who made this happen.
