Sometimes experience is worth more than a paycheck.
Salt Lake Community College facilitates internship opportunities for students who want hands-on experience in their future careers. In many cases, these internships allow students to turn their job into college credit hours.
“Building up your resume and getting experience can be very helpful in the long run,” former SLCC student Jordan Pettigrew says. “One of my greatest experiences at Salt Lake Community College is the internship I did. It taught me many things and it helped me grow as a person. Internships serve a bigger mission.”
Though some internships are unpaid, students gain access to career-building opportunities that classes and regular jobs can’t give.
“It is not about the money,” Pettigrew says. “What you take from the internship is on you.”
Internships provide students with experiences they’ve never had before, and often determine whether to pursue the job as a career. Internships can also teach students how to carry themselves as professionals in the workforce.
SLCC students may be able to use their job or internship as college credit if it relates to their major.
Anyone who wants to learn more about internships through SLCC can meet with an advisor or visit the nearest Career and Student Employment Services office.
