The Salt Lake Community College Music Department is holding auditions for its musical ensembles March 3-5 at the South City Campus.

All students wanting to join for fall 2016, including high school students, are encouraged to audition. The audition is required for placement in most of the ensembles. Music scholarships and tuition waivers are also available to eligible students.

Spots are available in nearly all performing groups, which include the SLCC Chamber Singers, College Chorale, Salt City Voices and Instrumental Ensembles.

Vocal groups

Chamber Singers, considered the premier choral ensemble, consists of approximately 40 students who perform at some of the most prestigious concert halls and festivals around the world.

College Chorale is a collaborative ensemble comprised of nearly 100 students that performs for college and local community events.

Salt City Voices specialize in performing contemporary music. The 15-member vocal and instrumental ensemble enables students to develop their abilities through jazz, pop and rock genres.

Instrumental ensembles

Instrumental ensembles that involve SLCC students include the Bruin Chamber Orchestra, the SLCC-Taylorsville Symphony Orchestra, the Murray Concert Band and SLCC’s Jazz-Commercial Music Ensembles. These various groups perform anything from jazz to rock and country.

Financial aid

The audition is also a requirement for students considering any of SLCC talent-based scholarships.

To apply for a scholarship, students will need to fill out the department’s scholarship application form and bring it to their audition.

Tuition waivers are also still available for qualified students.

Any student who wishes to audition can contact Craig Ferrin at 801-381-0007 or 801-957-3465 for an appointment.
