Photography club is back to stay

The Salt Lake Community College photography club is back, booming and here to stay. After several years of being inactive, club president Bowen Deng is taking matters into his own hands and giving the students exactly what they want.

“I want to make it fun and interesting, but I want to focus on what the students want. Whatever interests them will be the direction we take,” says Deng.

Deng traveled all the way from China to attend SLCC and his love for photography sparked with the beautiful scenery and outdoor culture Utah has to offer. After realizing SLCC did not have a photography club, he knew exactly the direction of his pursuit.

Deng has expressed that he is open to ideas from students as far as in the direction the club will go.

“The students’ wants and needs are my priority, it is not about the direction I want to take it,” says Deng.

Deng has a specific goal in mind to take the nerves out of nervous, expressing that he “wants people to feel comfortable with photography and focus on the beauty, rather than focusing on their hands shaking.”

The photography club has not yet finalized the details of the club, such as when and where they will be meeting.

Further details will be announced following orientation this week.

The club will be open to the public for those experienced in photography or not, and everyone is encouraged to join.

For those with an interest in photography, speak with Deng for more details on showcasing talents and skills.
