Get published in Folio this spring

You may have noticed those cool posters that are all over the place that look like they’re straight out of a detective-style comic book.

It’s all in an effort by Folio to encourage students to share their creative talent with the campus community.

“Folio is a student literature and art magazine in which students can submit their pieces and have they published,” says SLCC professor and Folio faculty adviser, Brandon Alva.

Folio staff are looking for any type of art, including selfies, photography, literature, poetry, videos and other media. However, since Folio is published both in print and online, more video and audio content is desired.

Although the submission deadline for Fall 2015 has already passed, Folio staff are now accepting content for the Spring 2016 magazine.

Any student can submit their own artwork at folioslcc.org.

Students who upload artwork have a major say in the theme for the magazine.

“The theme is determined by the type of submissions we get,” says Alva.

Folio staff review every student submission before the magazine is published.

“When you submit something, we look at it, send an [acceptance or rejection] email — sometimes with tips on how to fix it,” says Folio staff member Mark Stone. “Then we do some minor editing [before publishing a piece].”

Free copies of the Fall 2015 edition of Folio will be available at a release party Dec. 3 in the AAB commons area at Taylorsville Redwood Campus. Students who had their work published will also get to read their submission in front of the audience.

Now if you’ll excuse me, I’ve got some pieces to upload to Folio. And you should too.
