Salt Lake Community College students can cash in on student discounts at stores across the valley.

One rite of passage for every college student is getting a campus ID. But at Salt Lake Community College, this is more than just another card to carry around.

The OneCard entitles SLCC students to a wide range of benefits, including access to the library, campus bookstores, the B-Line and sports facilities. Luckily for students, these benefits also extend to local businesses off campus.

“It is good to know that there is so much more to the OneCard than inside the campus, it’s like a new world is opening up to me,” says SLCC student Mary Nejatifar.

The OneCard acts as a student discount for all kinds of activities in the Salt Lake Valley.

Students should always carry their OneCard and be ready to get it out at every occasion: asking for a student discount doesn’t cost anything.

Food and entertainment

Cinemark offers students a discount on the new release movies if you show your card. On top of that, certain restaurants will give you a discount, according to Laina McGinty, supervisor of SLCC OneCard services.

Fashion

For the student who loves to shop, the OneCard can help you can get discounts.

According to McGinty, some of the stores that offer discounts include “J. Crew, American Eagle, Banana Republic and Forever 21, where you can get 15% off every Friday.”

Not your clothing style? No worries, go shop online and get a reduction at Topshop or Asos; the online retailers will take ten percent off the total purchase.

Tech

It is often difficult to succeed without the perfect tools for school, but luckily Best Buy accepts the SLCC student discount on a selection of laptops and software, like Microsoft Office.

Apple has a promotion going on right now as well. Simply show them the OneCard and save up to $200 on an eligible Mac, with a free pair of Solo HD2 headphones to boot!

Transportation

For students who are concerned about global warming, or find themselves without an automobile, take advantage of the public transportation at the best price with your card.

Students can now ride TRAX and UTA buses at a low cost of $15 a month. The Onecard is tap on/off enabled, so once you have paid for your bus pass, your OneCard can immediately be used with UTA’s ultra-modern and convenient boarding system.

Recreation

The OneCard also has discounts on fun too!

Skiing is no longer as expensive thanks to the OneCard; presenting your student ID can earn you a $300 discount on a season pass at every single resort in Utah.

Overall, the key to take advantage of your OneCard is to ask, not every business is going to remind you of what you deserve.

Being a student can be expensive, but hidden discounts are everywhere!
