Salt Lake Community College students who have a OneCard are entitled to benefits they might be unaware of.
Spring semester has started, and students are encouraged to take advantage of what the OneCard offers. SLCC gives students access to libraries, campus bookstores, B-Line shuttle service, and sports facilities for free. There are also local and national businesses that offer perks to students using their OneCard.
“It is good to know that there is so much more to the OneCard than inside the campus. It’s like a new world is opening up to me,” says SLCC student Mary Nejatifar.
Food and dining
Food is always on a college student’s mind, so it helps to know that you can get discounts from select restaurants with your OneCard.
One way restaurants give back to the community is through exclusive discounts for students with a valid student ID. Arby’s, Buffalo Wild Wings, Chick-fil-a, Dunkin Donuts, TCBY, Even Stevens, and Little Caesar’s have discounts ready for those who show their OneCard.
Shopping
Clothing is also another necessity for students. Young people love to shop, and clothing is definitely one of the biggest expenses, so it is a good thing your OneCard can also get you discounts on the latest styles.
Fashion stores want to help keep students up to date with the newest trends at locations like American Eagle, Urban Outfitters, as well as others. The OneCard will get you a discount at both locations.
Overstock.com offers discounts on clothing as well as furniture and other goods. The company will let students join their “Club O” for free which gives students free shipping and other rewards.
Travel
Oftentimes in the mind of a college student, there’s nothing like going on a vacation for spring break, winter break, or pretty much any other chance they can get. CoachUSA, OneTravel, and American Airlines offer deals to those with the OneCard.
Caesar’s Palace also offers a 10 percent student discount off bookings at their hotel. If you research other hotels, airlines, and travel agencies, there’s a high chance you’ll find at least a few more that offer similar deals and discounts.
Tech
Technology is a big part of everyone’s lives these days. Some of the people that have to use it the most, whether it be for studying, homework, or classwork, are college students. The OneCard can get you discounts from a few big companies in the tech field.
Companies like T-Mobile and Best Buy offer discounts on tech merchandise to students. Students can also save money by shopping at the Microsoft Store for software programs like OneNote, Office 365, and Imagine for free. They also offer some discounts on hardware.
Other companies like Ableton offer up to 40 percent off Ableton Live Standard and Suite with a free upgrade to Live 10. The Washington Post offers all students a 50 percent discount; sign up with your .edu email address to take advantage of that offer.
All of these discounts can help students in the long run. While these businesses offer discounts, some may not. It is best to call ahead or ask an employee if you’re trying to save money with your OneCard.
