Student Voice Project provides students with a public forum

The Student Voice Project gives students a safe, objective environment to tell their unique stories of their trials and triumphs. It also gives students the ability to discuss what it’s like to be a student and share their unique voices with the rest of the school.

The point of the project was and still is to bring in student voices from a variety of cultures, interests and lifestyles to be expressed in a safe and nurturing public forum within the college’s community.

“The goal of the Student Voice Project is to give a voice to a specific group of the student body and to explore the richness of the differences within each student group,” says Raina Dalby, coordinator of The Student Voice Project.

The project’s operations are conducted by Student Life & Leadership, with Arts and Cultural Events (ACE) acting as a partner. ACE provides funding for the events, assistance with marketing and logistics, and also helps with building a committee.

When Richard Scott, the chair of ACE, created The Student Voice Project a few years ago, he “hoped that the experiences celebrate and explore our differences in a way that enriches each of [the faculty, staff and students] and the college.”

Past events have included, Students with Disabilities, Veterans: Students Who Serve, Asian Awareness, The African-American Student Voice Project, and Students of Pacific Island Heritage.

The people in charge of the Student Voice Project are hopeful that staff, faculty and students will attend to learn more of the specifics about the group’s experiences.

More information about these and other events can be found on the Student Life & Leadership page or the Arts and Cultural Events page.
