With just two games left in conference play, the Salt Lake Community College Bruins are undefeated in conference play and a comfortable two games ahead of their nearest competitor the College of Southern Idaho (CSI), a team that the Bruins beat in 5 sets on Sophomore Saturday, Oct. 26, 2013.
Because of the season sweep of CSI, the Bruins will be hosting the Regional 18 tournament on Nov. 8 and 9, even if they drop their last two games. However, losing even one of the next two games would require a monumental meltdown.
The Bruins face Colorado Northwestern Community College (CNCC) on Nov. 1 at 7 p.m. in Rangely, Colo. CNCC has yet to win a game in conference and only has three wins on the season.
On Saturday, Nov. 2, the Bruins will face Utah State University-Eastern (USU-E) at 1 p.m. in Price, Utah. USU-E has one in conference win and is 5-16 on the season.
With one win, the Bruins will clinch the Scenic West Athletic Conference championship. Coach Sue Delaney has the luxury of getting her second team some experience for next year and the responsibility to rest her stars while still keeping them sharp for the tournament.
The Bruins have had a great run through the SWAC regardless of the outcomes of the next two games. SLCC students should look forward to supporting their team when they get back into town for the tournament.
