Big Bang Theory Star Kunal Nayyar, who plays Raj on the popular TV show, spoke to about 2,000 people on April 2, 2012 at the Lifetime Activities Center on the Taylorsville Redwood Campus at Salt Lake Community College.

Nayyar talked about how he has succeeded in life and what he believes is important.  He also took questions from the audience.

“Your success is going to be determined and measured by the person you a) are and b) become,” says Nayyar.

After his first year on the show, Nayyar says that he was having a hard time adjusting to the success when Producer Chuck Lorre pulled him aside and told him that the only way to make it in show business is to be humble.

“I worked hard, and I got lucky in some ways,” says Nayyar.  “Keep working hard because that is all you can do, and do it with a smile.”

Nayyar came to the United States to get a higher education.  He went to the University of Portland where he had his first acting experience.

“I’m going to audition for this play, and I’m going to meet girls,” says Nayyar.  “That’s how I became an actor.”

He went on to get his master’s degree at Temple University.

Nayyar’s next projects include Ice Age 4, a horror film called The Scribbler and a reality TV show that he is hoping a network will pick up.

Look for more of Kunal Nayyar’s advice about work, waiters and women in an upcoming print edition of The Globe, available at any SLCC campus.
