Pickup basketball games are an easy way to make new friends and meet new people.

In search of a free activity that brings the campus community together, the Salt Lake Community College Staff Association recently started organizing pickup basketball games at the Taylorsville Redwood Campus.

Earlier this year, the Staff Association conducted surveys to determine what activity faculty and staff would like to participate in the most. Basketball received 150 votes on the final survey, making it the clear winner.

Julia Ellis, president of the Staff Association, believes playing a game is a perfect way for faculty and staff to interact with and socially mentor students. In addition to bringing students and faculty together, it allows students to meet and create relationships with each other.

Anyone who wants to play pickup basketball can visit the Lifetime Activities Center every Friday between 5 and 7 p.m. A current OneCard is needed to access the gym. There are no fees, uniforms or commitment.
