Working out is a great way to keep our bodies fit, healthy and functioning properly. But going to the gym and learning how to use the equipment can be overwhelming.

To combat this pressure, Salt Lake Community College and the Health and Lifetime Activities Department are offering low-cost personal training sessions for all students and staff, regardless of experience.

Personal trainers can raise workouts to a higher level and teach clients the correct maneuvers to feel and see the best results. SLCC has three certified personal trainers available to help students achieve their fitness goals.

Austin Lewis

In addition to being a fitness technician and personal trainer, Austin Lewis is also certified in first aid. He has focused on physical fitness for the last three years and says he loves seeing people’s lives change by working out.

Lewis has always enjoyed physical fitness but credits working out for why he is able to battle depression, headaches and low energy.

“When I was feeling down, I would work out. Each time got easier and easier and I felt better,” he says. “Eventually I was working out because I felt so good. It also helped build my confidence.”

Joli Johanson

Joli Johanson earned a fitness technician degree from SLCC. She is currently pursuing a master’s degree in exercise and sport science from the University of Utah.

After working in the education field for the past few years Johanson has come back to SLCC to join the fight for good health. She believes her training can help clients make the necessary changes to become who they want to be.

“I am just there to assist people who want to help themselves,” she says. “That’s where the magic happens!”

Colton Fox

Colton Fox has also joined this power team. He completed the SLCC fitness technician program in 2015 and was recently accepted into the kinesiology program at the U.

Fox has a military background and brings a lot of his skills and regimen to his workouts. He wants to help people feel better physically and knows he has the ability to help.
