No. 13 seed Salt Lake Community College started the NJCAA National Tournament with a win over No. 20 seed Northeast Mississippi 77-64 yesterday in Hutchinson, Kansas.
SLCC (27-8) pulled away from and Tigers (18-10) midway through the first half, leading 41-27 at the break. The Bruins continued their consistent play in the second half, racking up a 20-point lead at one point in the contest.
Salt Lake stifled the Tiger offense for most of the game, as Northeast Mississippi converted just 33.3 percent of their shots.
SLCC freshman Conner Toolson scored a game-high 16 points and shot 60 percent from the field. Standout sophomore Tyler Rawson contributed 13 points, five rebounds, five assists and three steals.
Reserve guard Bushmen Ebet added 12 points and three steals and sophomore forward Marcus White contributed 11 points and five rebounds.
SLCC continues their run at a national title today against No. 4 seed Odessa College at 6:30 p.m. local time. Fans can watch the game on NJCAA-TV.
