Letter from the Editor: Plan your future

Happy New Year, Bruins!

As we begin a new year and new semester, I wanted to take a moment to share a few thoughts.

We often set goals at the beginning of each year only to lose sight of them and find ourselves scrambling and clawing our way through February. We go to the gym for a few weeks, then we go less  — and less. By week four, the only constant is the free t-shirt with the Ronda Rousey quote they gave you with the membership. The question now is: How do I actually accomplish my goals?

When I started at SLCC, I had an end goal in mind, but no plan. I knew that I wanted a bachelor’s degree in journalism. That was about it. I took classes aimlessly, wasted thousands of dollars, and became really frustrated. I knew nothing about transferring to other schools, or what I needed to graduate.

I finally got fed up with having no real direction in life. I sat down and listed my goals, and made a detailed plan on how I would accomplish them. Having some solid details on how I would accomplish this made all the difference. I was able to finish all my classes in three semesters, graduate, and transfer to the University of Utah.

For those of you who are not sure what you want to do, I encourage you to make a plan and carry it out. I promise you won’t regret planning your future now.
