Good help is hard to find, yet Salt Lake Community College has delivered another tool for students seeking help throughout the school year — and it’s only an app away.
Ellucian GO brings information normally seen on MyPage right to a student’s smartphone.
Students can look up their account balances, grades, class schedules and more.
“The first day of class, I saw other students lining up at the info desk to find where their classes were, but the app was very useful and saved me time by telling me exactly where I needed to go,” says SLCC student Ladd Lacour.
In addition to general account information, students can pull up BruinMail, B-Line shuttle schedules and SLCC student media, including The Globe newspaper.
Ellucian GO is available for Android, Apple and Kindle Fire devices, and is free of charge.
According to Ellucian, the maker of Ellucian GO, the app is used by hundreds of colleges and universities worldwide.
While this app is popular at many schools, the number of SLCC students who download it seems to be small.
“This is my third year at SLCC and I have never heard of the app,” says student Todd Larson. “I think that SLCC almost offers too much, and this app is just another thing they want us to use.”
In an informal poll at the Taylorsville Redwood Campus, 25 students were asked if they had heard of the Ellucian GO app. Out of the students polled, only one had heard of the app.
“The app seems to have a lot of issues. It never seems to work when I’m connected to the school Wi-Fi, and it doesn’t always show updated information,” says student Michelle Brown. “I prefer to go online and print off the stuff I need directly from MyPage, so I know I have the correct information.”
Although some believe the app is unnecessary, SLCC still offers it for students who want a mobile-friendly way to stay connected.
“I downloaded this app before I began at SLCC, and it made school much easier,” says Lacour.
