It takes brains to survive zombie apocalypse

On March 18 from 11 a.m. to noon at the Student Event Center on the Taylorsville Redwood Campus the Pre-Med Club will host self-defense instructor Nancy Ayala and Salt lake Community College emergency manager Scott Jones, who will be talking about what to do in the zombie apocalypse.

The Pre-Med Club aims to educate people in many aspects, including emergency preparedness and self-defense.

“Sixty percent of Salt Lake City are going to be in trouble if they’re not prepared, if an earthquake were to happen,” says Sarah Cooke, president of the Pre-Med Club.

Quoting a Community Emergency Response Team representative, Cooke says that an earthquake is going to happen and that all houses built before 1990 are not up to code.

“Do you have a whistle by your bed? Because people are more likely to hear that than you screaming [if you’re trapped somewhere],” continues Cooke.

Jones will be talking about how SLCC will handle an emergency using a zombie apocalypse as the example of a disaster.

Ayala from United Studios will show students how to protect themselves and others. Ayala is a specialist in self-defense and karate. She will demonstrate basic techniques that can help anyone.

The meeting is free and open to everyone.
