Online Dating: A love story

The world of dating can often seem like a cold and cruel place.

The world of online dating is even more horrifying, and more than a little bit embarrassing even if the pros do outweigh the cons. Where else can you meet eligible single persons, with up to date descriptions of their life, all from the comfort of your couch?

If you are looking for that special someone, here are some tips:

  • Waiting for people to message you is draining. Send some messages of your own. The best messages are a few sentences long that indicate you read their profile. Ask them a question, and keep the conversation PG. Allow a day or two grace time in between messages. If someone you fancy fails to respond or turns you down, move on to the next person and try again. There are plenty of fish in the Cyber Sea.

  • You don’t owe anybody anything. Just because someone asks you on a date, doesn’t mean you have to accept. The ability to screen people in this sense is a blessing, especially to those of us who are not good with confrontation.

  • Keep the first date simple and opt for coffee. Coffee is cheap and takes 20 minutes to drink. By the time your mug is empty, you’ll have decided if you’d like to continue the conversation or cut your losses and call it a day. Dinner dates prolong the agony if your date turns sour. Get a friend, who is in the loop, to call at a set time in case you need an out.
