Dance Company puts on a display to mimic Earth

On Friday, April 12 and Saturday, April 13, Salt Lake Community College’s Dance Company performed “EarthDance” at the Grand Theatre. The concert was a representation of the Earth’s various components, such as seasons, weather and elements.

There was a thematic connection between “EarthDance” and the dance company’s fall 2012 concert, “EarthWorks.” “EarthDance” featured some of the same dances seen in “EarthWorks,” including From The Dust We Came, 23.5o Tilt, and Dancing With The Lion.

The music and the lighting used for From The Dust We Came enhanced the dancers portrayal of sand or particles blowing in the wind.

The hip-hop dance titled The Boom included a video slideshow with pictures of earthquake destruction: cracks in the ground, collapsed buildings and other damage earthquakes cause.

Dancing With The Lion was about animals in the jungle, with green lighting and leaf shaped lights in the background

The dancers wore cheetah costumes and portrayed animals in the jungle at the beginning of the dance by walking on all fours down the aisles, heading for the stage and climbing like animals onto the stage.
