At the Annual Academic Achievement Reception on Monday, March 24, the Interim President of Salt Lake Community College, the Dean of Students and several other administrators and faculty members congratulated students who made the Dean’s List and the President’s List.
“Putting great effort into making either the Dean’s or President’s Lists can be very beneficial,” wrote Joanne Thomas, Assistant Director of Academic and Career Advising in a letter to the Globe. “When referenced on a resume, it can indicate to graduate schools and/or employers that the student is a hard worker, able to face challenges and succeed.”
To be eligible for the Dean’s List, students must complete a minimum of 15 credit hours in a semester and earn a GPA of 3.5 or higher. President’s List honorees must complete a minimum of 15 credit hours and earn a GPA of 3.8 or higher.

“We really care about your success, and that is what tonight is highlighting,” said Dr. Deneece G. Huftalin, Interim President of Salt Lake Community College. “You are a remarkable group that is sitting in this room.”
Huftalin said that at SLCC, the average credit hour load per student is 9 credit hours, so students taking 15 credit hours or more are on track to finish their degree and move on to the next step more quickly whether that is joining the workforce or transferring to the university.
“We had a little over 1000 students in the last 4 semesters who were able to commit to 15 credit hours per semester, which is remarkable in and of itself,” Huftalin said, “and then to earn a 3.5 or higher in those 15 credits at some time during those semesters, and many of you sitting here did that multiple times, in multiple semesters.”
If you are on the Dean’s List or the President’s List, and you missed the event, you can still get your pin.
“Students received a letter if they are on the Dean’s List or President’s List,” says Sonia Parker, the Director of Academic and Career Advising. “If they couldn’t come, they can pick up their pin from Madeline Corona.”
