Out of over 30,000 Salt Lake Community College students, nearly 1,700 students earned the honor of Dean’s List or President’s List over the last year. Over 500 of those students attended the President’s and Dean’s Lists Recognition Reception in their honor. (Click here to see requirements and eligibility for Dean’s List or President’s List)
Student enrollment at SLCC each semester is between 30,000 and 40,000 students.
On average, SLCC students take 9 credits per semester
Almost 1700 SLCC students who take 15 credits or more earn a GPA of 3.5 or higher
More than 500 students attended the reception
This is the largest number to attend since the tradition was started in 2008. Because there were so many students, the reception was divided into two sessions, one at noon and one in the evening.
“In 2008 we had about 143 of the students being honored in attendance,” said Sonia Parker, the Director of Academic and Career Advising in her speech Monday evening. “The next year we had 234, and two years later, we had 337. This year, we had over 500 students, and that’s wonderful because that means that our Salt Lake Community College students are achieving success.”

Three students out of all of the students being honored, Yunia Jada, Charles Ku and Vu Nguyen, earned a 4.0 GPA each semester. Another student, 16-year-old Candice Goodwin, who is taking concurrent enrollment classes through her high school, was also on the Presidents List with a GPA of 4.0.
“We know that it’s not easy; it takes a lot of sacrifice, and you made it,” says Parker. “We are so proud for you. You have earned it. Put it in your heart; it’s yours.”
