For many students, talking about sex and relationships can be an embarrassing ordeal. For others, just finding information about sex related topics can be difficult.

For more information about the “Building Health Relationships” event or to learn more about SLCC Health Promotion Services, contact Tatiana Burton at tatiana.burton@slcc.edu.

To help students ease their concerns about these issues, on Feb. 21 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., SLCC will hold a sex education event titled “Building Healthy Relationships” at the Taylorsville Redwood Campus’ Student Event Center.

“We will be holding this event specifically for students who have questions about having safe sex and how to build healthy relationships,” said SLCC health promotion manager Tatiana Burton.

Health Promotion Services’ goal for the event is to educate students on building healthy relationships through open communication and understanding.

Topics will include sexual responsibility and how to be intimate without having sex.  Additionally, the event will show students how to properly put on condoms and where condoms can be purchased at the school for reduced prices.

The event will also cover how to get proper consent for sex and how to say “no.” Students will be educated on what sexual assault is, and what resources are available for students who are victims of sexual assault.

“We are here to serve students who are victims of sexual assault regardless if the assault happened on or off campus,” said Burton. “We provide resources, and everything is confidential.”
