Free flu shots are now available at the Center for Health and Counseling.
The center started offering flu shots earlier this month. According to Jessica Pettersson, health promotion specialist at the Center for Health and Counseling, the shots are free for all currently enrolled Salt Lake Community College students, while supplies last.
A recent survey conducted by Agile Health Insurance showed that 72 percent of college students have a hard time finding affordable health insurance. Students who don’t have health insurance may benefit greatly from this service.
“I am caught up on my immunizations, but if I wasn’t caught up and didn’t have any insurance, that [free flu shot] would be super helpful,” says student Taylore Moody. “I think SLCC should keep doing this if students really need it, even if it helps just one student.”
The flu shots are also free for any full-time SLCC employee who brings their Blue Cross Blue Shield insurance card.
Part-time staff can expect to pay $20 to receive a flu shot.
As it pertains to the amount of shots in supply, Pettersson says the Center for Health and Counseling has “plenty available” and encourages any student or employee who hasn’t gotten a flu shot yet to go get one.
Pettersson says no appointment is needed for a flu shot; simply visit one of the centers during regular office hours.
If necessary, payment is due at the time of the visit.
