The Salt Lake Community College women’s basketball team is back on the court and looking to have a great upcoming season.

Led by head coach Betsy Specketer and assistant coaches Katie Walker and Marcilina Grayer, the Bruins are coming off of a great 2016-17 season with an overall record of 30-6 and a conference record of 14-2. The team also earned their fourth consecutive Scenic West Athletic Conference championship, which put them as the top seed in the Region 18 tournament where they won both of their games.

“Last year, the team had a great run in the National Tournament, so this year we are all just looking forward to going back and bringing home the title,” says sophomore Jamaica Martin.

For this upcoming season, the Bruins are looking to be just as, if not more successful, than they were last season. SLCC welcomes back their top scorer, sophomore Tia Hay, who expects to have a stellar season this year.

SLCC also picked up some new freshman talent, including Karolina Fardrhonsova, Kiarra Gasu, Ashley Scoggin, Miki’ala Maio, Malia Brown, and Emma Villas Gomis. All of these newcomers look promising.

The Bruins will open their season with the SLCC Jamboree on Friday, Oct. 20 at 9 a.m. in the Lifetime Activities Center on the Taylorsville Redwood Campus.
