Women’s basketball: SLCC enters NJCAA Elite Eight

No. 3 seed Salt Lake Community College women’s basketball team defeated No. 19 seed Vincennes University 66-51 on Wednesday to advance to the Elite Eight round of the NJCAA National Tournament in Lubbock, Texas.

Salt Lake (31-2) held Vincennes (29-6) to just five points in the second quarter to lead 29-16 at halftime. The Bruins extended their lead through the second half, leading by as much as 23 points late in the game.

Sophomore guard Tilar Clark led all scorers with 23 points on 10-for-19 shooting. Freshman forward Karina Brandon contributed six points, 10 rebounds and three assists and sophomore guard Iva Georgieva added nine points. Sophomore forward Elsa Paulsson-Glantz scored eight points and collected five rebounds.

Reserve forward Andrea Brady contributed nine points, four rebounds and two assists in 19 minutes.

SLCC forced 14 turnovers and held the Trailblazers to 35.1 percent shooting as a team. Vincennes guards Kyra Tucker and Brooke Dossett scored 21 points and 18 points, respectively.

Salt Lake will face No. 6 seed Trinity Valley (29-3) today at 6 p.m. local time. Fans can visit NJCAA-TV to watch the live broadcast.
