President Huftalin welcomes students to 2015

I love this time of year; reflecting on a summer of great memories, the colors and cool weather of fall knocking on the door, and a time to welcome new and returning students to Salt Lake Community College’s campuses.

So many academic and career decisions – futures in the making – are being made at SLCC sites all over the Salt Lake Valley, and now at our newest location in West Valley City. While our combined student population could comprise a small city, no one at SLCC should feel like they’re making decisions and navigating college solely on their own.

I am proud of SLCC’s small class sizes and the individual attention that they afford and of the fantastic advisors and staff who guide students toward completing a degree or certificate or transferring to a four-year institution.

Any college experience should embody an element of fun, and SLCC is brimming with opportunities to explore life outside of the classroom.

Take in a game with one of our nationally ranked sports teams. Check out a free concert or event at SLCC’s main Taylorsville Redwood Campus. Or discover a great music, dance or theatrical production at South City Campus’ Grand Theatre.

I encourage you to carve out some time in your busy schedule and discover some of the exciting extra-curricular activities going on around SLCC.

I also urge you to use The Globe newspaper in print or online, your Bruin mail, the College’s website www.slcc.edu and our social media sites to stay informed about SLCC events and news.

Graduates and transfer students often look back on their time at SLCC with a great deal of pride, fondness and, as the years go by, nostalgia. Your story, your college experience, becomes part of SLCC’s story, one that spans almost 70 years and includes a constellation of former students who made SLCC part of their lives.

Welcome to SLCC – and let’s get started on our stories together!

Fondly,

President Deneece G. Huftalin
