Second-ranked Salt Lake Community College softball traveled to Twin Falls, Idaho last weekend and split a four-game series with the fifth-ranked College of Southern Idaho.
The Bruins fell to the Eagles twice on Friday, losing 4-3 and 4-2. Baylee Reeves pitched six innings in the loss, allowing four runs. KyRae Kogianes, Karly Bunderson and Payton Hart each had RBI hits.
Salt Lake’s Bunderson and Megan Reed drove in the two Bruin runs in the second loss, and Elisha Jahnke allowed four runs in six innings on the mound.
The Bruins struck back in Saturday’s doubleheader, defeating the Eagles 2-1 and 9-3. SLCC scored two runs in the seventh inning to get the win in game one. Lauren Frailey struck out seven batters and allowed a single run on seven hits for the win.
Game two featured a bit more offense, as Kogaines, Riana Splinter and Corinne Cleverly each homered. Splinter drove in three runs and Kogaines had four RBI. Reeves relieved Chelsa Baca in the first inning and pitched seven innings for the victory.
SLCC plays in Ephraim against Snow College on April 3 and 4.
Bruins baseball halves four-game series against No. 20 CSI
The Bruin baseball team split a four-game series versus No. 20-ranked CSI over three days in Salt Lake.
SLCC won game one 6-4 last Thursday. Jason Jourdan earned the victory, allowing four runs in 6 2-3 innings. Trevor Peterson went 3 for 4 with 3 RBI and a stolen base. SLCC earned 10 walks in the game, scoring four runs off of bases on balls.
The Bruins dropped both games of Friday’s doubleheader, losing 5-1 and 5-4. Caleb Summerhays scored the only run for SLCC in game one, while Zac Willis went 2 for 3 with two doubles and two runs scored in the second game.
Salt Lake recovered on Saturday, winning 7-1. Matt Hape earned the win, allowing one run on five hits, walking three and striking out four in 7 2-3 innings.
The Bruins play a doubleheader against USU Eastern on April 2.
