Letter to the Editor: Tech tips for MyMathLab

To get the MyMathLab program to work with the new Windows 8.1 and IE11, you need to turn off the pop-up blockers and the Adobe ActiveX Flash Player security setting in IE11 and install Adobe Shockwave Player 12.1.

Also, if your computer is running Windows 8.0 or 8.1, make sure to turn off the enhanced protection mode in the internet options, under the advanced settings and the security settings, or the MyMathLab program will never work with the new Windows 8.1 and IE11. I had to do this or it would never work with Windows 8.1, a browser like IE11 that I like, or Firefox and so on.

Also, you have to temporary disable your antivirus software, but only when activating your access code and signing in for the first time to the math labs program, then you can leave your antivirus software activated after that. This will help a lot of you to not have a headache over this MyMathLab program not working well with Windows 8.1 and IE11.

It’s a pain in the butt to get work right but I got it to work right after a week. Also the math lab tech people are not very helpful and don’t know Windows 8.1 that well. I hope this helps a lot of you students avoid a big headache.
