Salt Lake Community College athletes have been doing very well in all their sports this season, including around the diamond in baseball. SLCC baseball extended their winning streak, after sweeping Colorado Northwestern Community College (CNCC) in a doubleheader over the weekend.

The Bruins (18-8), on the early season, took on CNCC Saturday on their home field at Cate Field in West Jordan. The Bruins defeated the Spartans 7-4 in the day’s first game and won an 8-1 decision over CNCC in game two. SLCC now leads the regular season series with CNCC 4-1.

The first game of the double header was led by Zach Watts, who finished off the first game with a triple and a home run which drew three RBI’s when he stepped up to the plate. Nick Urban helped the Bruins with a double which brought in a run.

Robert Grilli was 0-1 in the batter’s box, but that didn’t stop him from stealing two bases, as Jarren Adam picked up the win with five strike-outs in 2.1 innings, helping the Bruins 7-4 win in game one.

On the second game of the day, Taylor Snyder went 2-3 with a home run, with three RBI’s. This wasn’t the only Bruin who homered, as Garrett Bushman had a homer of his own, bringing in three runs, as the Bruins cruise past the Spartans in 8-1 win in game two.

The Bruins currently take the lead in the SWAC standings; five games ahead of rival College of Southern Idaho (CSI) (16-14, 5-3 SWAC).

Next up for Head Coach David Nelson and the Bruins is a pair of away games at rival CSI on Friday, Mar. 21 in Twin Falls, ID. First pitch for game one is slated for 1 p.m. with game two beginning 30 minutes following the conclusion of the first matchup.
