The No. 8 ranked Bruins found a way to pull out a win on the road in Idaho on Thursday night, as Mercedes Riggs hit a key three-pointer down the stretch to help the Bruins beat North Idaho College 51-48 to sweep the three games against NIC this season.

Salt Lake Community College, coming off their first loss last week after winning a season high 16 straight games, were looking to bounce back on the road in Idaho to start up another streak before the season ends.

SLCC (22-5) hit the court to take on their Scenic West Athletic Conference (SWAC) opponent NIC (20-8) on Thursday night.

The Bruins started the game slow, and at one point during the half, they were down by as many as nine points. They fought back to close the gap to five.

After allowing 31 points to the Cardinals in the first half, the Bruins knew their defense needed to step up if they wanted to win their third game over NIC this season.

SLCC held NIC to just 17 points in the second half, which included five points in the last eight minutes and 30 seconds of the game helping the Bruins fight back to add their 11conference win of the season.

The Bruins had a full team effort in Thursday’s win where no one member of the team scored in double figures on the night. Britney Johnson and Riggs both led the way with nine points; Johnson also had a team high 10 rebounds on the night.

Bella Swan helped the cause with eight points and seven boards in the victory.

SLCC (11-1) remains in first place atop the SWAC standings one game ahead of No. 9-ranked College of Southern Idaho (11-2), which makes Saturday’s game huge.

The Bruins play against CSI on Saturday, Feb. 15 in Twin Falls, ID. Tipoff is at 3 p.m. The game can be streamed at http://www.ihigh.com/csi/.

  1 2 Final
SLCC 26 25 51
NIC 31 17 48
