The Salt Lake Community College baseball team (1-3) spilt a pair of games on Feb. 1 against Glendale Community College (GCC) at the Coyote Border Battle.
The Bruins defeated the Gauchos in a 6-3 victory on Saturday morning with sophomore pitcher Anthony Dixon striking out seven batters in seven innings of work to pick up the win.
A trio of players went 1-for-3 at the plate. Sophomore outfielder Nick Urban had two runs. Sophomore outfielder Zach Watts had one run batted in (RBI), and sophomore infielder Derrick Whitney had a double and a run scored for the Bruins in the win.
The Bruins fell 5-2 in the second game against GCC.
Freshman pitcher Jared White took the loss in the outing working five innings with five strikeouts and allowing three runs to score. Sophomore pitcher Jarren Adam struck out three batters in his two innings of relief.
Freshman outfielder Caleb Summerhays was 2-for-4 at the plate and was hit by a pitch and Urban went 2-for-3 with a walk batting .500 for the doubleheader.
Next up for Head Coach DG Nelson and the Bruins is a road trip to Prescott, AZ for a matchup with Yavapai College on Wednesday, Feb. 12 with the first pitch slated for noon.
