In 2008 gamers were introduced to the action video game Fallout 3. The game took players to a future of endless possibilities situated in a post-nuclear Washington DC. The game was so popular it won game of the year for 2009 along with Best Writing at the Game Developer’s Choice Awards. Now in 2010 the next installment in the Fallout saga, Fallout: New Vegas, has gamers everywhere excited.
“I am ecstatic to see the state of the world of Fallout in the western part of America,” said Jeff Warren, local gamer. “Its exciting to see the desert where the lore of Fallout says not as many bombs fell.”
Fallout: New Vegas takes place in, as the title suggests, the ruins of Las Vegas and the surrounding desert. Players will have the chance to wander down the still blinking lights of Vegas, powered by the surviving Hoover Dam.
“Getting away from Washington DC getting back to the series roots getting back to the west obviously in Vegas, which is kind of a cool nod to the past games, which is really cool,” said Landon Poague, another local gamer.
One of the series strongest points has been the ability to customize the player’s character. Fallout: New Vegas is no exception, offering a wide variety of helpful uniforms and outfits, adding to the look of the character.
“The thing that I liked about Fallout 3 is the customization of the character and kinda making the character mine. I’m really excited to see how in depth the customization goes,” said Pogue
The game will be released in two separate versions, a standard and collector’s edition that will contain several in-game perks.
“The collector’s edition is going to be really cool,” said Blake Anderson, a Play-And-Trade employee on State Street and 33rd. “It comes with…the armored Vault 13 suit and that’s extensively patched up…Vault 13 canteen is going to be in it, which is a handy device that’s going to stave off dehydration and regenerate health in the Mojave Desert.”
The collector’s edition will also include a fully customized deck of playing cards, poker chips designed to represent different casinos in the game, and The Making of Fallout: New Vegas DVD.
The game will be on sale Oct. 19, 2010 and copies can be pre-ordered at Play-N-Trade and at Gamestop. The regular version will run between $49.99 and $59.99 and the collector’s edition will be between $69.99 and $79.99 depending on the system.
