Lagoon features new family-friendly attraction

Lagoon park opened this year with a brand new rollercoaster. The park named the attraction BomBora and incorporated a surfer-style theme. BomBora is just one more addition to the latest of Lagoon’s modern coasters.

BomBora is advertised as family friendly and agreeable for both adult and child riders. BomBora is designed to simulate a surfer riding an ocean’s wave. It features abrupt drops, banked turns and multiple spirals. Surf music can be heard during the experience by both the people currently on the ride and those waiting in line. Speakers are conveniently located on the back of every cart.

Each coaster seats eight pairs of two riders. BomBora is a common gravity-driven rollercoaster after the initial hill.

Brady Johnson is 21-years-old and a current student at Salt Lake Community College. Johnson usually visits Lagoon at least once a year. He went earlier this year in May and rode BomBora.

“It’s a pretty good family ride. You can tell it’s marketed towards families because the ride is located in the kiddies section of the park. But I enjoy the more intense rides so once is enough for me,” he said.

Lagoon is home to many attractions that draw in a variety of crowds. Lagoon even upgraded the kiddies’ section recently so children have several more rides available to them. BomBora is just one more addition to the park that provides the parents and children a ride they can enjoy together.

The last big ride that Lagoon debuted was the rollercoaster named Wicked. This ride is much more intense than BomBora and is a favorite of many passionate Lagoon customers, including Johnson. He admitted that it is perhaps the one attraction he looks forward to the most when he attends Lagoon each summer.

“I just never get sick of Wicked. It is very dynamic and unique from all of the other coasters there,” he said.

Riders of Wicked are launched to the top of a 110-foot hill at speeds of approximately 41 mph. It is propelled by the use of a linear synchronous motor (LSM) drive system. In other words, the rollercoaster is powered by large, energized magnets. This essentially rockets riders abruptly over the top of the first hill. However, the initial hill on Wicked appears to be a straight, vertical climb and drop.

BomBora and Wicked are included in both the Regular Single Day Passport and the Season Passport. One Regular Single Day Passport costs $43.95 while a Season Passport costs $110.95. Tickets can be purchased on the Lagoon website at lagoonpark.com/servlet/OnlineSales or at the park on the day of attendance.

Lagoon is open until 10:00 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, 11:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. on Friday and 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. on Saturday. October 30 is the last day Lagoon is open for this season.

Lagoon is located just east of I-15 in Farmington, Utah. More information can be found at lagoonpark.com.
