Sports fans have a new haven at Radio SLCC, with the new show, “Sports At Home” starring David “Vito” Winkworth and John Gehrke. They will discuss everything sports from the various drafts and upcoming games in the big leagues, and even step into local sports teams like the Bruins or other outlets.

“I came up with the idea of creating my own radio show back when I was interning at ESPN 700,” says Winkworth in an interview via e-mail.

Winkworth spoke to his now co-host John Gehrke and they immediately got to work on the format of the show, but it didn’t stop there for Winkworth.

He then started contributing to various sports outlets such as doing play-by-play commentary for Bruins Basketball and writing articles covering the NBA, NHL and the NCAAF, among others. He also works with the Deseret News covering the Utah Grizzlies.

“The purpose of the show is to bring all of our great viewers and fans of ‘Sports At Home’ a new way to get their sports information,” Winkworth says.

He wants to expand his program to cover all kinds of sports.

“Sports At Home” has even had the opportunity to not just cover the games but also bring athletes into the studio, as he did with former NFL tight end Les Brown of the Miami Dolphins and former Utah Blaze linebacker Mike Lewis.

“I have met a lot of great broadcasters and athletes during my time doing ‘Sports At Home’ and I wouldn’t change a thing,” says Winkworth.

Sports At Home runs its broadcast live on Fridays from 5-7 p.m. on Radio SLCC. Winkworth also provides the show’s recordings on his website www.sportsathome.com.

Sports At Home has an active Twitter account fans can follow: (@SportsAtHomeVnG), as well as Winkworth’s personal twitter for updates (@RealDavidVito). Their Facebook page is called “Sports At Home Radio.”
