Freshman catcher Riana Splinter helps the Bruins get their first win of the season with a seventh inning two-run walk off homer in a 6-5 win over the No. 14-ranked Gulf Coast College (GCC).

The Salt Lake Community College (1-3) Softball team entered Saturday planning on playing a tripleheader, but it ended up being a doubleheader with the cancellation of the game against Yavapai College.

The win over GCC marks the first victory for Head Coach Cyndee Bennett, who is in her first season of coaching for the Bruins.

Courtney Platt struck out two GCC batters allowing three runs on seven hits in four innings of play. Paige Reimann struck out three GCC batters to close things out for the win.

First baseman/outfielder Megan Reed helped the cause going 2-for-3 at the plate with a double and scoring two runs.

In the final game of the day, Bruin freshman pitcher Chelsa Baca struck out five batters giving up only two hits and no runs in 4.1 innings pitched.

Even with good pitching, the Bruins fell to Central Arizona College (CAC) with the final score of 4-3 to close out the day.

Splinter was 1-for-3 with one RBI, and Reed went 2-for-5 at the plate with two runs scored and a stolen base in the 4-3 loss on Saturday.
