International Student Affairs adds South City office

A new office just opened up at South City Campus that all students should know about.

Salt Lake Community College’s new International Student Affairs office accommodates current and prospective international students, or anyone else who is interested in student activity and culture. Opening at the beginning of the spring 2018 semester, the new division at South City is an extension of the International Student Affairs main office located at the Taylorsville Redwood Campus.

“Students should use the new location for convenience, so they don’t have to travel across town to get their answers or services they need,” says Rob Robbins, manager of SLCC International Student Affairs. “We are here to help these students have a better educational experience and improved access to international services.”

SLCC offers amazing opportunities to a variety of students, especially international students from around the world. With small class sizes, affordable tuition, quality instruction and a beautiful facility, SLCC is a beneficial place to pursue higher education.

“We currently serve international students from over 60 countries,” Robbins explains. “We want students to succeed in their studies and enjoy the best of American culture. We are here to build cultural understanding and to develop global competencies for the entire SLCC community.”

Coming to a new country is not always smooth transition. SLCC’s international students are an integral part of student life here at SLCC, and this new office provides another “home away from home”. Questions can be answered, help can be given, and all students are welcome to drop by the office.

“I am not an international student, but I think it is amazing that we have a resource like this available here at SLCC,” declares Sidney Porter, a future Special Education major. “I have had classes with international students and I have developed some close relationships. I would be interested in visiting this new office to learn about the different ways of life at my school.”

The International Student Affairs office at South City Campus is located directly across from the Veterans Affairs office in room 1-061G-C. It is open Mondays from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Wednesdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Visit the International Student Affairs Facebook page to get a more personal viewpoint on this cherished part of SLCC culture.
